Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is a powerful and completely natural holistic healing therapy that uses a very gentle laying on of hands. As with so much ancient knowledge, it was lost and then ‘given' to Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk in the 1800s after many years of study, research and meditation. He was the first Grand Master and since his death there have been only two more: Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata.

Because of the truly remarkable results that Reiki can bring about it has become very popular and there are now many forms being practised. Suzanna uses the traditional Usui method, which has not changed in almost 200 years, so it is as powerful now as it was when Usui first used it.

In Japanese, Reiki means ‘universal life force' and the practitioner uses this energy to harness pure life force and send it to wherever it is needed. Today we say that our biography becomes our biology because we recognise that spiritual and emotional energy blocks, such as unexpressed pain or anger and unresolved past life traumas, lead to blocks within our bodies that create dis-ease and eventually lead to disease. Reiki simply recognises the illness as an imbalance and sends healing energy to wherever it is needed in the body so that the individual can gradually be returned to health.

There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can give it once they are attuned by a Master, and anyone can receive it, the only requirement is the desire to be healed.

There is no need to remove any clothing, as the Reiki energy will pass through anything and go straight to the cause of the problem. The practitioner simply places their hands very gently on, or above, the body in a series of positions which ensure that all the major organs, the head, endocrine system and the chakras are covered. Clients may feel relaxed, sleepy and warmth from the practitioner's hands as energy is sent to where it is needed in the body.

A treatment normally lasts for one hour, at the end of which people may feel energised, very relaxed, or, in the case of pain or injury, healed. The process is completely painless and non-invasive and it cannot conflict with medical or other treatments.

Suzanna is a Level II Practitioner. In 2004 she asked Master Jocelyn Graef (who was taught by Takata before her death in 1980) to attune her to Mastership, but was told that this was not for her by her Spirit guides as it would limit her work. Usui felt that in order to become a Reiki Master the practitioner should dedicate their life to this form of healing and such exclusivity is not Suzanna's path. However, she finds it an invaluable part of her healing and intuitive counselling toolkit, either as a stand along therapy, or as part of a course in healing.
